The sound of rustling and crunching leaves communicates to us that fall has arrived. As mentioned in the BC Early Learning Framework, there are hundreds to thousands of languages to listen to and aspects of our living world that are communicating to those who are willing to listen. As students and educators, it is always important to notice “gestures, silence, movement, gaze and stillness, as well as the materials, the objects, light, and sound and how these are all interrelated” (BC Early Learning Framework, 2016, p.49). When we take the time to listen to our surroundings, we may learn something new, gain new experiences, or find time to reminisce on stories that are provoked by certain sounds.
